Mobile REALTORS® urge Congress to address Alabama housing shortage.

MOBILE, Ala. (June 2026) – Representatives of the Mobile Area Association of REALTORS® (MAAR) traveled to Washington, D.C., during the 2026 REALTORS® Legislative Meetings to advocate for policies that support housing opportunities, strengthen communities, and protect the interests of property owners and real estate professionals.

MAAR CEO Cy Cain, RPAC Coordinator Zack Albert, 2026 MAAR President Marie Dickinson, and 2026 RPAC Committee Chair Donna Gardner met with Representative Barry Moore to discuss federal legislative priorities affecting homeowners, consumers, and the real estate industry.

During the meeting, MAAR representatives advocated for several REALTOR® policy priorities, including:

• The More Homes on the Market Act, which would update the tax exclusion on the sale of a primary residence and encourage more housing inventory to enter the market.

• The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, which seeks to increase housing production, improve affordability, and reduce barriers to development.

• The Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act, which would support the conversion of underutilized commercial properties into housing and mixed-use developments.

• Continued federal investments in fair housing initiatives, housing counseling, and homebuyer education programs.

• The Association Health Plans Act, which would expand access to affordable health insurance options for REALTORS® and other independent contractors.

“Homeownership remains one of the most powerful tools for building wealth and strengthening communities,” said 2026 MAAR President Marie Dickinson. “Meeting directly with lawmakers allows REALTORS® to share firsthand insights from the housing market and advocate for policies that help more families achieve the dream of homeownership.”

Housing affordability and inventory challenges remain a concern for communities across Alabama and the nation. REALTORS® continue to advocate for solutions that expand housing opportunities while protecting property rights and promoting responsible growth.

“REALTORS® work with consumers every day and see the real-world impact of housing shortages and affordability challenges,” said Donna Gardner. “These conversations help ensure that policymakers understand how federal legislation affects local communities, homeowners, and future buyers.”

The Capitol Hill meetings were organized by the National Association of REALTORS® as part of its annual REALTORS® Legislative Meetings, bringing together REALTORS® from across the country to engage directly with federal lawmakers on issues affecting real estate and homeownership.
