Press Release: Map for Mobile
Drafts of the updated Future Land Use Map (FLUM) and Major Street Plan (MSP) have been completed and will be unveiled on Thursday, April 6, at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium of Government Street Baptist Church, located at 3401 Government Boulevard. Additionally, a zoning workshop will be held to provide information and solicit citizen feedback on the Zoning Framework.
Map for Mobile is the first comprehensive plan for the City of Mobile to be conducted in over 20 years. Hundreds of citizens came together in April 2015 and participated in a “Focus on the Future” workshop. Offering great ideas and suggestions, they helped to identify core critical needs for Mobile that would shape the community’s long-term vision and serve as a guide for future physical development.
Since that first public workshop, people from many businesses, neighborhoods, community groups, etc., have been brainstorming and working with our planning staff and consultants to get to the next level of the “zoning overhaul,” and we are now entering that phase with great momentum and success. We are updating the zoning, Future Land Use Map (FLUM), and Major Street Plan (MSP), to implement the Map for Mobile vision.
All Mobile citizens are encouraged to attend this important presentation and learn about the new documents that will shape the future of the City of Mobile. These documents will pave the way for future generations.
